Here’s an overview of our current policies here at Crossroads Calligraphy LLC. If you have any questions, or something isn’t covered, please Contact us to address them.
Communication
My business hours are Monday – Friday from 9am to 4pm MST. I do not accept client calls, text messages or meetings outside of these hours, whether we are already working together or not. Please use my Inquiry Form to share your ideas and request calligraphy. I’ve set up the form to collect the information necessary to put a quote and a timeline together for you. This streamlines our interaction during the Consultation, so we can focus on gathering details about your project. After you submit the form, you’ll receive an email with a link to schedule a consultation. My available times are already listed, just choose one that’s right for you
Consultation
I’ll guide you through the production and presentation process. We’ll discuss calligraphy options, paper options, final presentation, and preferred colors. We’ll also go over the project timeline and how I will get the final calligraphy to you.
Pricing & Payment
I collect a non-refundable deposit from you, equaling 50% of the estimated cost for the project. This secures your Project Start Date on my calendar. I accept credit card payments on the invoice I will provide you. I also accept cash and checks. If the scope of the project changes after the deposit is paid, the remaining balance will reflect these additions. If the scope decreases, no refund will be made. Final payment is due on project completion, before you receive the final calligraphy. Any quote I provide you is good for 30 days after our consultation and does not necessarily indicate the final price of art and design.
Each calligraphy project starts with a $75 setup fee. This is for collecting materials, research, and setitng up guidelines for your project. This fee may be waived at my discretion, pending the scope of your project.
For Custom Calligraphy Artwork, I factor in the materials you’d like, the amount of text, and the complexity of the calligraphy script. Decorative letters, gold leaf, illustration, and matting and framing the piece for display are additional, as are any shipping or travel expenses. You will have the option to add on these elements when selecting your services in a form I will send to you.
I price Envelope and Event Calligraphy on a per-piece basis, assuming the client is providing all surfaces I will write on, with 20% extra material for paper goods. Please refer to the linked pages for current pricing.
Paper and Materials
Envelope and place card clients are required to include a 20% allowance for all materials they provide. This allowance is for extra names and corrections. While I don’t provide paper goods, I am happy to guide you in paper selection. Due to the nature of dip pen calligraphy, I must approve the paper in person or be familiar with it before agreeing to writing calligraphy on it. Additional fees apply for use of metallic ink or custom ink. Client is required to supply all text, materials agreed on, and other info prior to our project start date.
Timing
I schedule client work out 4 to 6 weeks in advance. If you need a project completed in less time, it takes time and energy away from those projects. I will accommodate spontaneous projects (3 week turnaround time or less) with a rush fee of 50% of the final estimated cost. Expedited shipping rates may also apply.
Proofs and Revisions
Writing calligraphy is a delicate process, and many of the texts I’ve penned are of a delicate nature. Sometimes situations evolve and details change at the last minute. Because of this, I offer 2 proofs to each client before beginning the final calligraphy.
Though you have this available to you, please make sure you take the time to review the text you are providing for spelling, grammar, and syntax. The easiest way to check to errors is to read it out loud. This way, you can be sure the text is formatted exactly the way you want it. I’m not saying it has to be a masterpiece, and I will definitely double-check the text and refer to you with any questions, but this will ensure a smooth experience for both of us.
Proofing Stationery Work for Print
You have two proofs for each stationery design project. It is your responsibility with each proof to verify information is correct. If the project needs to be reprinted because of incorrect information you provided AND you signed the proof, you will be responsible for the cost of correction of information in the design and the full cost of the reprint, plus any rush fees from the Company and the printing company.
Finalizing for Presentation
Most times, I present completed work matted and ready to be framed for display. For event calligraphy, I organize it in whatever way we’ve agreed to. I also package the event pieces (envelopes, place cards, seating charts) so as to protect them during transit from me to you and beyond.
Cancellation Policy
50% of the total cost is non-refundable, as it covers collecting materials and design work. The client is responsible for paying for any work completed that exceeds the initial deposit at the time of cancellation.
